About this site
doineedprobate.ca exists for one reason: when someone dies, the people left to sort out the estate are often grieving, overwhelmed, and unsure whether they even need to go to court. Good information about that one question is surprisingly hard to find. This site is a free, plain-language starting point.
Built by a lawyer
doineedprobate.ca is created and reviewed by a practising Canadian lawyer. The legal information on the site is researched from official government and court sources and reviewed before it is published. (Full author credentials and biography will appear here before launch.)
What this site is — and isn't
It is a way to understand whether probate is likely needed, what the process is called where you are, and what to do next. It is not legal advice, and using it does not make anyone your lawyer. Every estate is different and the law changes — for advice on your situation, speak to a lawyer licensed where the person who died lived.
How we keep it accurate
Probate thresholds, fees and forms change. We record the source and review date for every figure, and we revisit the rulesets on a regular schedule. If you spot something out of date, please let us know.
